Guest Post: Author Helen Le Mesurier on "Finding Hayley Finding Me"

I'm thrilled to host author Helen Le Mesurier as she discusses her non-fiction book Finding Hayley, Finding Me. As an actress and author, it's true that I understand both sides of Helen's interesting journey, and I'm so glad it's brought her to us here today. Take it away, Helen!

ACTORS INFLUENCE OUR LIVES
Today is the 2nd day of my virtual book tour for my newly released book “Finding Hayley Finding Me” (My Life-Changing Journey to Actress Hayley Mills).

I am grateful to Leanna for allowing me to be a guest blogger on her blog today.  As Leanna is an actress as well as an author she shares an understanding of the world I entered when I met Disney star of the 1960’s, Hayley Mills.

Actors influence our lives.  They help us break away from our daily life and enter a world of escapism, and, at the same time, they also take us into our everyday life, allowing us to reflect from the vantage point of the narrative, assisting us in navigating our own circumstances; they stir our empathy, inspiring us to relate to the characters they are portraying; and they spark our imagination by allowing us to consider the many selves we too could contain.
For some of us a particular actor draws us more than others.  Often we connect with the actor themselves rather than just the roles they play, appreciating their acting abilities and/or their charisma.  Chances are you have an actor about whom you feel this way – for a while I thought I did too.

For me it was Hayley Mills. I had my bedroom plastered with posters of Hayley and I avidly collected every magazine article and all photos of her I could find. She was the big Disney star of my day, much like Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez have been more recently.  (Unlike some Disney stars, Hayley maintained her wholesome image throughout her teen years). I’m sure this is a familiar thing for a lot of you who have also found an actor whom you’ve held in high esteem, such as my daughter did with Barbra Streisand and Johnny Depp.

Hayley Mills comes from a very famous family of thespians.  Her father was Sir John Mills, the biggest star of English film through the 1930s to 50s and maintained a very active acting career right up until his death in 2005. Her mother, Mary Hayley Bell, was also in the business, as is her sister, Juliet Mills (of Passions fame).

As I grew older one would have expected that this teenage admiration would pale into insignificance and become something that I would have outgrown (my daughter’s room is no longer covered in Johnny Depp posters).  This did not happen for me.  I sensed something deeper, that I couldn’t explain.

Thirty years later, my sense of connection to Hayley remained as strong as ever, so when the opportunity came to meet her I couldn’t let it pass.  It took many phone calls where I was rebuffed, rebuked and rejected. I stood at stage doors. I travelled across Australia.  But after much effort, my persistence paid off and I finally met her.  This opened up a world I had not expected to find.  Her warmth and acceptance of me changed the way I saw myself, and I uncovered the reason why I had felt such a strong connection with her. The connection I felt did indeed run deep. So deep, in fact, that one lifetime did not contain the answers.

I invite you to accompany me on the remainder of the book tour by clicking the link below to follow my daily schedule: http://www.findinghayleyfindingme.com.au/book-tour-schedule/

In Love and Light,
Helen Le Mesurier

COVER REVEAL: THE TWISTED TRAGEDY OF MISS NATALIE STEWART

Hi friends! Book Expo America was amazing. I got to meet a bunch of my fellow Apocalypsies, I was interviewed by Justine Magazine and Bookish, spoke on panels, had a lovely signing at the RWA booth, attended book and blogger parties and had an amazing time talking about books with all kinds of lovely book-loving people. AND, another perk of BEA is that Sourcebooks got a chance to say that my beautiful cover is officially revealed. Here she is, sequel to my Indie Next pick and Scholastic "highly recommended" title DARKER STILL: A Novel of Magic Most Foul... May I present THE TWISTED TRAGEDY OF MISS NATALIE STEWART...

Swoon!
It releases the beginning of November at a bookstore near you!

From the back cover:

"I'm coming for you."
The whispers haunt her dreams and fill her waking hours with dread. Something odd is happening. Something unnatural.
Possession of the living. Resurrection of the dead.
And Natalie Stewart is caught right in the middle. Jonathon, the one person she thought she could trust, has become a double-agent for the dark side. But he plays the part so well, Natalie has to wonder how much he's really acting. She can't even see what it is she's fighting. But the cost of losing is her heart, her sanity, her soul.

I can't wait to share more of Natalie and Jonathon's adventures with you! I'm very proud of this book, it's action-packed, romantic, and guaranteed to give you goosebumps-- maybe a nightmare or two...

Title: LIES BENEATH

Shop Indie Bookstores

Happy Release Day!

Synopsis:
Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters must prey on humans and absorb their positive energy. Usually they select their victims at random, but this time around the underwater clan chooses its target for a reason: revenge. They want to kill Jason Hancock, the man they blame for their mother's death. It's going to take the whole White family to lure the aquaphobic Hancock onto the water. Calder's job is to gain Hancock's trust by getting close to his family. Relying on his irresistible good looks and charm, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter Lily. Easy enough, but Calder screws everything up by falling in love—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined, and just as the mermaids threaten to take matters into their own hands, forcing Calder to choose between family and the girl he loves. One thing's for sure, whatever Calder decides, the outcome won't be pretty.

Your Fave thing about your book: THE MAP at the front that shows where everything is!! I'm a huge Winnie the Pooh fan, so any book with map makes me happy. The setting is a very real place where I spent a lot of time growing up (and still do). It was my editor's idea to include the map, so now readers can gain a familiarity with the area, too.

Your Fave fluffy animal: Yellow baby chicks

If you were a ghost, where would you haunt?: Probably an antique store. I'd wander around and touch all my old stuff.

In Which Deputy Kellion is Revealed

May I introduce you to Deputy Margaret Kellion of Auror's Tale played by none other than... well... me.

Via the Auror's Tale Tumblr!

"Meet Deputy Margaret Kellion, second-in-command at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

MARGARET KELLION

WAND: Rosewood, Dragon Heartstring, 11 inches

PATRONUS: Hawk

OCCUPATION: Deputy at The NYC Department of Magical Law Enforcment
BIO: She is strict, efficient and chic. Deput Margaret Kellion graduated as valedictorian of the Salem Academy of Magic in 1993 and was immediately made an Auror in Training thanks to her remarkable academic achievements. She was officially accepted onto the force in 1995 where she worked as a Junior Auror in the White House Relations Unit for one year and was made a Senior Auror there in 1997. During her time there, she earned herself a rather shadowy reputation. The decisions of the muggle politicians began to weigh on her and she sort of strayed. There are certainly rumors of minor involvement in Hellhound business from 1999-2003. In 2004 she cut all ties with the W.H.R.U. and took a job as a Senior Auror at the New York City Department of Magical Law Enforcement where she was partnered with one Christopher Munro. Later, in 2008, she and her partner were elevated to Deputy and Chief of the Department. She has served alongside him since then. Margaret is known for her organizational skills and defensive magic. She is a formidable duelist who works without flourishes or fanciness. This woman has no tolerance for nonsense but nobly preaches tolerance of magical and non-magical co-existence. She serves NYC proudly and gracefully."
